Following on from our previous article about the challenges that the human factors team faces, now I will look at how we can address those challenges using RAMSIS NextGen and 3DEXPERIENCE.
RAMSIS NextGen is the world leading tool for Human Factors and Ergonomics. 3DEXPERIENCE is a business platform providing a multi-disciplinary solution that provides toolsets such as CAD, PLM, and Simulation.
Design Complexity
By utilising RAMSIS NextGen in 3DEXPERIENCE the design complexity challenges can be addressed through the creation of virtual human models and conducting simulations of the interactions between the vehicle components and occupants.
This allows the human factors team to assess the control placements, comfort of seating and interior elements.
This means multiple design options can all be reviewed without requiring physical prototypes, all leading to a quicker time to market.
Regulatory Compliance
By utilising these two solutions to create a digital twin of the vehicle, they can conduct simulations and assessments to address any potential regulation compliance issues earlier in the development cycle, all helping to track and achieve regulatory compliance.
Distracted Driving
Conducting simulation studies through RAMSIS NextGen in 3DEXPERIENCE to evaluate the potential placement of in-car technology, human factors experts can help to reduce drive distractions, by analysing the impact of controls and displays on the driver’s attention and making the necessary changes.
Adapting to Autonomous Vehicles
With the continuous evolution of autonomous vehicles, traditional methods and processes are not suitable to deliver vehicle development, the tools available within RAMSIS NextGen and 3DEXPERIENCE support designers and human factors experts to create suitable interiors, layouts, and user interfaces to facilitate both manual and autonomous driving modes. They can also be used to simulate the user interactions in both driving scenarios as well as validating the seamless transition between the two modes.
Globalisation and User Variability
By creating a multitude of 3D Manikins that represents the diversity of the population with a variety of physical abilities and characteristics. Designers can assess the comfort and accessibility of the vehicle for all the potential occupants across a variety of regions and cultures.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration
By adopting 3DEXPERIENCE multiple teams within the organisation can effectively collaborate on the most up to date models and related documentation, basically ‘a single source of truth’ that ensure everyone is working towards an aligned end goal, bridging the gap between designers, engineers, and human factors.
Evolving User Expectations
With emergence of innovative technologies such as voice assistants, touchless controls, and augmented reality displays, RAMSIS NextGen and 3DEXPERIENCE enables human factors experts to simulate how these technologies can impact the user’s interaction with vehicle, allowing for the identification and addressing of potential challenges in adapting to the evolution of user’s expectations.
Overall, the utilisation of RAMSIS NextGen and 3DEXPERIENCE helps to address the many challenges faced by the human factors team and bring together multiple departments to collaborate effectively and leverage the toolsets in a holistic approach to vehicle development.
