The CPU carries out the majority of calculations within CAD systems such as CATIA are single threaded, CPU’s with the fastest speeds in GHz for the latest generations are recommended as in CAD one feature must be rebuilt before the next can be constructed, the majority of calculations are single threaded

We currently recommend Intel core i7/i9 CPU’s from Intel’s 13^th Generation K series CPU which feature a great blend of high single thread speeds for CAD and up to to 24 cores these CPU’s for more multi thread applications such as Simulation in SIMULIA / Abaqus and Computer Aided Manufacturing within the DELMIA solutions.

Our benchmarking has often shown that more expensive systems with higher core counts can be slower for CAD and related workflows. We advise contacting us for advice or testing before committing a workstation outside of our recommendations. Systems costing many multiples of our recommended workstations may feature CPU's with many more, but crucially slower cores. While there are some workloads that will benefit you need to be sure the solutions/ workloads your team are carrying out will benefit otherwise you could spend more for worse performance!

When a document is opened in CATIA and many other 3DEXPERIENCE products it is loaded into RAM, you need enough so that Windows does not resort to using the hard disc (virtual memory). Adding More RAM will not improve performance unless you are running out.

We recommend 32GB for core most core CAD work and 64GB or more for the most complex designs and CAE workloads such as Simulation, Visualization.

Error Code Correcting (ECC) RAM is also recommended for these long running tasks where it reduces the chance of a crash or error due to random flipped bits and other environmental factors.

The graphics card is fundamental to your productivity. It assists with accelerating operations such as zooming and rotating

We continue to recommend certified Graphics cards from NVIDIA S Professional range (previously Quadro)

The Quadro branding was retired in 2021, now lookout for NVIDIA RTX Professional cards. E.g. 2022 generation- A2000, A3000, A4000 etc.

The latest Ada Lovelace generation released in 2023 lose a prefix but gain a suffix! Lookout for RTX XXXX “Ada Generation” cards, e.g. RTX 2000 Ada Generation, or abbreviated to RTX 3500 Ada Gen.

Products such as CATIA Live Rendering and 3D EXCITE visualisation and Xflow CFD simulation, can utilise GPU computer and AI denoising capabilities of the latest NVIDIA graphics cards with as much memory as budget allows to tackle the most complex datasets.

On-board Intel/AMD graphics, and cards such as GeForce and Radeon (non-Pro) are consumer level cards which are not supported. Using these can lead to poor performance and stability, ultimately lost productivity.

If buying a new monitor we recommend resolution of 1920x1080 at a minimum size of 15.6 inches for laptops or 24 inches for desktops. or 27 Inch and 32 inch at QHD resolutions (2560x1440).

4K+ screen resolutions can cause issues with scaling particularly on smaller screen sizes, we certainly would not recommend at screen sizes below 27 inches and would advise confirming compatibility with all used  applications before purchase.
