The DELMIA 3DEXPERIENCE Work Instructions Author (PWD) Role has powerful, easy-to-use features to detail and document any process from simple assembly prototyping to complex manufacturing or maintenance processes. Textual instructions and 3D annotations are created to describe a job and how to do it.
Text inputs are complemented by other electronic documents and images. Best practices for process execution instructions are captured and stored in a catalog for use by other authors. This allows enterprises to create and implement standards for the way products are manufactured, assembled, and maintained. PWD supports delivery of work instructions to the shop floor through a manufacturing execution system (MES), HTML, or printed material.
PWD works in conjunction with DELMIA Manufacturing Engineering Applications to leverage process information. Authors can check the impact of process changes on work instructions and make necessary updates.
Process engineers can publish process plans and related work instructions authored in PWD to the shop floor. This can also be executed as shop orders using DELMIA Apriso Execution. In all cases, Manufacturing sees only released process plans, work instructions, or shop orders, eliminating extra cost, scrap, and rework resulting from paper based systems.
Work Instructions Author Benefits
Better work-instruction quality
The collaborative environment gives work instruction authors access to configuration and lifecycle-managed product, process, and resource data. They work with the most up-to-date information available as they create or update work instructions.
Configured work instructions that support complex product and process scenarios
Provides support for product and process variants. This is essential across all industries, from aerospace and automotive to high-tech, providing users the ability to document all product models and variants.
Reduced effort and better quality for work instruction authoring
Gives users a single-source toolset to access relevant data in 3D. They can author text, copy work instructions from a catalog, capture images, attach documents and publish 3D and 2D work instructions for shop floor usage. This collaborative environment gives work instruction authors access to configuration and lifecycle-managed product, processes, and resource data. They work with the most up-to-date information available as they create or update work instructions.
Collaboration in 3D
Authors can exchange information with product designers and manufacturing engineers on a real-time basis to ensure that work instructions are properly reflected in the manufacturing process plans.
Bridge the data gap between planning and production
When the author is ready to publish, PWD compiles the process engineering data into a lightweight format and distributes the data to the shop floor. People on the shop floor can view work instructions and execute shop orders based on these work instructions using DELMIA Apriso Execution. PWD becomes the bridge that connects upstream planning with manufacturing operations.
Eliminate the paper burden for shop floor workers
Distributing printed work instructions creates inevitable delays and takes a long time to redistribute after every change. Obsolete instructions not immediately discarded may be inadvertently used, leading to reworks and delays.
Work Instructions Author Highlights
Create detailed operations with work instructions
PWD provides an immersive environment for authoring work instruction types, including text-based work instructions, data collection, sign-offs and alerts. These work instruction types can be sequenced with simple drag-and-drop capabilities for a specific operation in the process plan. Users can highlight important information with rich text format instructions.
Author work instructions based on a configured engineering and manufacturing dataset
Author work instructions based on a loaded configuration of the product and process data. The work instructions are configurable and reduces manufacturing errors by eliminating ambiguity and matching each product build.
Author work instructions using the current state of the 3D environment
Work instructions are created at the operational level of the process plan, giving users a contextual shop floor view of the state of the product and resources at any step of the process. Representations of the manufactured parts are displayed instead of the design parts whenever there is a difference. Users can visualize the product build-up, position of the resources, and the position of the product relative to the resources in the virtual model.
Work Instructions with FTA
Work instruction designers can access the Views from FTA for use in work instruction authoring. PWD allows for hiding or showing FTA views for the shop floor operator. Operators can see critical measurement and tolerance data from design for performing quality processes.
Capture views as 3D Work Instructions
The power of PWD clearly lies in designing 3D Work Instructions that can be as self-sufficient as possible, eliminating textual instructions. The user can capture view points of the product and add dress-up information, specific coloring or positioning of parts, assemblies and resources, 3D markers (labels, arrows, circles, lines call outs), 2D pictures (icons and symbols to illustrate necessary protection equipment or tools to be used), and embedded views to zoom details. These views in addition to alerts, sign-offs, and data collected can be sufficient for shop floor execution and can prevent language issues. These views can be published both as 2D or 3D for execution.
Enrich instructions with documents
Documents of all types, including drawings, 3D models, images, specifications, data sheets, videos, and NC programs can be attached to the work instructions to describe the planner’s intent in more detail.
Manage standard work instructions in catalogs
Allows users to capture best-practice work instructions and organize them in catalogs for quick retrieval and reuse, supporting corporate standardization and saving work for instruction authors.
Preview the authored instructions
Generate HTML-based shop floor work instructions and preview them for validation before export. PWD includes a catalog of customizable HTML templates that allow non-HTML-knowledgeable authors to develop and deliver HTML-based work instructions. The use of templates supports corporate documentation standards.
Quick understanding of work instructions status
Users can get a quick understanding of the status of current work instructions before starting work on a process plan. Instruction status such as Locked by a User or Locked for Maturity Level are displayed on the editor. Document properties such as Modification Date and Maturity Level are also available on the work instructions. This helps concurrent users to plan by knowing why data cannot be edited, speeding up the review-and-release process.
Openness for Work Instructions Authoring
Users can author work instructions using CAA C++ APIs and create / sequence work instructions under an operation. Users can create work instructions which can be easily migrated from legacy systems into the 3DEXPERIENCE® platform.
Enterprise Knowledge Language support for Work Instructions
Work Instructions can be authored using Enterprise Knowledge Language scripts. Users can add new Work Instruction Text, Data Collection, Alerts or Sign-offs under a system operation. This gives them the flexibility to bypass the user Interface to create work Instructions.
View product buildup operation-by-operation
Creates and distributes a view of the product buildup of each operation. The operations are viewable as thumbnails created by PWD, and when an operation is selected. Workers can review any operation in the process.
Publish 3D work instructions in 2D graphical view
For users who prefer to distribute work instructions in a 2D format, PWD creates a flat 2D graphical view of 3D work instructions that have been authored in DELMIA.
Distributes work instructions across the shop floor
Distribute work instructions with the press of a button. When the planner is ready to share the data, PWD distributes it electronically for immediate viewing, embellishment, and execution on the shop floor with no lag versus the publication of printed materials that may quickly become obsolete.
