This CATIA V5 Kinematics course will teach you how to design mechanisms using an existing assembly. You will also learn how to simulate and analyse the mechanisms for clashes and perform kinematic analysis.
What to Expect?
Learning Objectives
- Create new Mechanisms.
- Define Joints.
- Define Joint limits.
- Define driving “commands”.
- Analyse the mechanism degrees of freedom.
- Simulate the mechanism by direct manipulation of the Commands.
- Simulate the mechanism by Laws.
- Define Laws using formula.
- Define advanced Laws using Sketch curves.
- Record a Simulation.
- Sequencing multiple mechanisms.
- Define Sensors (Speed & Acceleration, Measurements, Clash & Contact, Distance & Band).
- Record sensor values during simulations & plot result graphs.
- Determine joint limits based on clash detection.
- Generate Swept Volumes.
- Generate Trace curves.
- Import and use mechanisms defined within sub-assemblies (sub-mechanisms).
- Define “Skeleton” mechanisms & use mechanism “Dress-Up”.

CATIA V5 Kinematics Agenda
The following lessons are included in the course
Lesson 1: Overview of Digital Mock Up Kinematics
- This lesson introduces us to the Kinematics Workbench and the general process of mechanism design.
Lesson 2: Creating Joints
- This lesson describes the various types of joints that can be created and the process for their creation.
Lesson 3: Simulating Mechanisms
- This lesson describes the steps involved in simulating a mechanism using laws and commands.
Lesson 4: Analysing Movements
- This lesson describes how to analyse the movements of a mechanism to measure speed and acceleration, generate traces, swept volume, checking joint limits and clashes.
Lesson 5: Recording and Playing Simulations
- In this lesson you will learn how to record simulations and play them.
Lesson 6: Miscellaneous Functionalities
- This lesson describes various functionalities like converting assembly constraints into joints, working with mechanism dress up, and importing mechanisms and dress ups.
Training Methods
Choose from three different training methods available to you

Group / Classroom Training
Receive CATIA V5 Kinematics training in a group in a traditional classroom environment. Courses can be taken in one of our training locations in the UK, Ireland, US or Canada using DS approved training content and methodologies.
Advantages
- Cost effective training method.
- Leave the office to concentrate on learning.
- Learn more through group questions and feedback.

Live Online Training
With online training you will experience an interactive learning environment where you can give feedback, gain access to the training files and get time to work on training exercises.
Advantages
- Online courses can maximise convenience and save on travel expenses.
- More effective than video based training, with recorded videos learners are often not as focused on the training and skip exercises.

On-Site Training
Receive training at your place of work. This style of flexible training is perfect for teams or individuals who are faced with a specific challenge and require personalized courses with on-the-job coaching.
Advantages
- Use our state-of-the-art mobile classroom at your facility.
- Bring your team up to a consistent level of knowledge by having them take the same training at the same time.
- Benefit from flexible scheduling options.
Upcoming Courses
If you do not see a suitable training course scheduled below please contact us. Our training team are happy to discuss your requirements and can schedule additional courses or arrange onsite or bespoke training to suit your needs.
