Outfitting Fabrication Engineer for Marine

Efficient and automatic rule-driven manufacturing preparation from outfitting (piping & HVAC) design data to generate output data for Marine production (drawings and machine data) with the Outfitting Fabrication Engineer Role

DELMIA 3DEXPERIENCE Outfitting Fabrication Engineer for Marine (POFEM) Role is a rich manufacturing solution that enables manual and automated work preparation for piping, HVAC and other related outfitting parts. It enables Manufacturing Engineers to do the detailed preparation in a collaborative 3D design to manufacturing environment.

Every step in the fabrication process, from cutting parts to installation of parts in an assembly is fully visualized in the immersive 3DEXPERIENCE® environment. Once details have been defined, the manufacturing engineer can extract workshop documents in XML format.

Administrators can set production rules that specify standard requirements and special manufacturing features. POFEM automatically incorporates them into the work preparation process. For pipe fabrication, the software performs a comprehensive quality check to ensure that all aspects of the subsequent production have been taken into account, including resource assignment.

Outfitting Fabrication Engineer for Marine Benefits

Easy creation of outfitting fabrication data & deliverables based on design definition & business rules

POFEM is an efficient 3D model-based transparent solution leveraging both powerful 3D visualization tools, as well as alphanumerical information to (semi-) automatically manage work preparation for piping, HVAC and other related outfitting parts of large marine products.

Business rule integrations allows tailoring and automatic generation of lightweight wireframe model manufacturing features based on engineering items structure (design) features. This automation minimizes errors that can happen in a purely manual process. Manufacturing features include cutting, flattening, margin and overlength.

Early detection of issues in a collaborative business process from Design to Manufacturing saves time and money

POFEM helps to improve quality of preparation and reduces the costly time spend in the yard to fix production issues that were not anticipated earlier in the process, i.e. in virtual environments.

Outfitting Fabrication Engineer for Marine Highlights

Manufacturing item structure management for all marine and offshore manufacturing disciplines

POFEM enables manufacturing engineers to author the assembly structure, create assembly drawings and prepare the basis for downstream business processes. Authoring the assembly structure involves deciding which components are assembled in the pre-outfitting of blocks and sections, and which ones are assembled in final outfitting stages, independent of how the Engineering Item Structure is organized. The user can decide which parts to purchase and which assemblies and parts to make. If the Engineering structure contains fasteners (typically the case for Structure Design Data), when generating the MBOM, corresponding fasten items will be created as well.

Unique 3D immersive multi-view user interface

POFEM provides various UI elements to perform the job on thousands of objects. Among those UI elements: A grid view (3-dimensional PERT-like chart) to illustrate the assembly composition with 3D representations displayed on tiles, a classical tree view and a smart-tool auxiliary viewer with a corresponding part list with many possibilities to visualize what is already planned versus what has not been planned.

User interface and business logic customization for authoring, navigation and output

POFEM’s open architecture provides the ability to customize the authoring, data navigation and output documents according to the company’s needs. The invocation of business rules for aggregation, assignment and naming makes it possible to automate the creation of the Manufacturing Item Structure.

Manual and rule-based pipe preparation for end and intermediate macros

POFEM administrators can manually create macros which are managed using fabrication data setup. They can also create them automatically based on rules (EKL) and a connection with the design information.

Generation of manufactured parts (piece-parts), fasten items (welds in manufacturing) and subsequent manufacturing features

On 3DEXPERIENCE, the transparent model-based approach explicitly deals with weld objects connecting to design elements. Automatically derived from the design structure, POFEM computes Manufactured Parts, and Fasten manufacturing items can be used to automatically compute the Fasten Operations and its durations for Process Engineering for Marine (PERFM). This includes detailed weld preparation for pipe spool data.

Automatically update in-process models

POFEM draws on user-defined catalogs to generate manufacturing steps. Production engineers can customize in-process models, working collaboratively to keep productivity levels high. POFEM automatically applies updates to the current assembly plan.

Enhanced rule-based feature creation with early resource assignment

POFEM users have the advantage of a rule-based approach for the generation of parts manufacturing features. This lets users apply manufacturing rules, such as specification of the machine that will cut or bend the pipe.

HVAC and Raceway design part fabrication

POFEM lets users differentiate parametric and non-parametric parts for HVAC part work preparation. It includes piece-flattening capability for the generation of unfolded features, including marking lines. In addition, it allows detailing of HVAC data where a piece part in a design becomes an assembly during manufacturing.

Edit manufacturing items feature by feature

Intelligent edit tools let users review the manufacturing features of each item individually, greatly reducing time and errors. They can modify, delete, or add new features – all based on a selected functional process type.

Integrated applications to manage model – based 3D Tolerances and Annotations

POFEM delivers applications to manage and optimize 3D Tolerances and annotations directly on the engineering model, which are reported on production deliverables. This eliminates having to generate and update 2D documents to the 3D geometry definition

  • Increases the quality of manufactured products with less tolerancing and drawing interpretation errors
  • Natural path from 2D definition to a full 3D definition
  • Feeds downstream applications such as Manufacturing & work instructions
Review parts at any stage of the process

The Open Resulting Product command lets users display parts during the manufacturing process. They can select them in their original state or at any stage from design to manufacturing. Each state of the parts – an unfolding HVAC duct, for example – is reviewable as a separate part.

Check the manufacturability of piping parts

Applying action rules, assigned resources use fabrication information to check manufacturability. Users learn whether a part can be manufactured with an assigned machine. This early validation reduces errors and results in a faster process.

XML document extraction

The Extract XML Document command allows manufacturing engineers to generate and export pipe XML documents. The users can export a single pipe, or all pipes in the session, based on the aggregated object selected. This data, which can be used for external systems, includes all the fabrication information, feature geometry, and bending orientation for all bending points and branch orientation.

Integrated application to manage complex multi-discipline drawings

POFEM delivers functions to generate complex drawings with extended capabilities

  • Parametric annotations dedicated to Heavy industry with smart positioning
  • Multi-view generation and update based on template and rules
  • Color-filling functionalities
  • Dedicated Bill of Material and template reports
  • Batch mode (credit based) with embedded 800 credits
Flexible generation of reports from alphanumerical + 2D PLM data stored in the platform

Report Producer is a powerful platform service that generates reports such as BOMs, checklists, instructions, etc. in multiple formats (Word, RTF, Excel, PDF, HTML, XML, CSV). Report Producer generates documents based on templates administrated by Report Template Designer (not part of this role).

Manufacturing Context Building (Session Building)

When dealing with large data sets in the Marine & Offshore industry, building a proper manufacturing context is highly recommended. This involves selecting a reduced data set in order to limit the number of objects loaded into the authoring session. This mechanism is called Session Building. The Session building is performed in the Manufacturing Context Builder (MCB), an application that is available in all authoring roles. MCB comes with powerful filtering capabilities (attribute, volume, configuration) and viewing functions based on light representations. In addition to that, users can find objects linked to each other by various relationships, and load the objects consistently into the authoring session. This concept is called Smart Completion. Additionally, users can define recipes to combine filters, tree expansion, navigation and completion. This is called User-Defined completion or User-Defined Open, depending on where the completion is being performed (client side or server side).

Issue Management

This generic command for all roles in Digital Manufacturing allows reporting of issues against the objects managed in this role. The issues are stored in the platform and hence easily shared with all collaborators.
