When problems are identified it is key to get these raised and visible to the relevant people. Issue management on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform allows any user with basic access to the platform to raise an issue and assign it directly to someone to be reviewed and resolved.

The platform will automatically notify users when an issue has been assigned to them and provide visibility of the new issue.

When raising issues in 3DEXPERIENCE users can easily attach supporting documents, photos, 3DMarkups and other information to add clarity to the issues. This reduces the need for additional meetings, emails, etc. that are typically untracked.

Issues can then be tracked through to completion and items that resolve the issue, like change actions and new CAD or drawings can be attached.

If change is uncontrolled it can often lead to duplicate work effort and uncontrolled (or at least not visible) costs. The 3DEXPERIENCE platform allows you to control change in two stages.

The first stage is available to everyone with a basic access licenses. This allows you to put items under change control so that they cannot be edited without a change action and an approval process.

Stage two introduces the ability to look at the impact of a change whether that is cost, time, etc. before committing to a change. This impact is reviewed prior to any changes taking place to see if the business is happy with the impact before committing to the change.

Businesses create a lot of documentation. Usually this documentation is kept separate from other data created in other areas of the business, for example CAD data or requirements.

The 3DEXPEREIENCE platform can store your business documents to give them the same security as all other data stored in the platform. In addition to this, these documents can then be linked directly to other data.

In addition documents in the platform are revision controlled and can be placed under change control, giving the same level of functionality to your documents as your CAD data.

3D data is normally reserved for the few who have access to a CAD license and a CAD workstation, limiting collaboration and visibility to the rest of the business. With 3DEXPEREINCE, a user with basic access and a web browser can view 2D drawings or 3D geometry. With 3D geometry displayed they can view the CAD structure, take measurements, hide and show components, take sections, create 3D markups among many other things.

3DEXPEREINCE project management connects the project managers with the rest of the business in a truly collaborative way.

Tasks that are assigned to users by the project managers become visible to those using the collaborative tasks widget, they will also receive an electronic notification and (if required) an email can also be sent.

Crucially these users can update their tasks details with regard to percentage complete, estimated start dates, attachments, deliverables, etc. and this information is updated live in the project for the project manager to view and present.

Often requirements are managed in a system that is totally independent of any engineering systems. 3DEXPERIENCE allows requirements to be created and be accessible to engineering in one system.

Many requirements’ specifications can be created and requirements can even be re-used between specifications for products with similar functions. These requirements can then be complimented by attaching them to tasks in project management for engineers to complete.

Directly integrating your CAD system (whether a Dassault product or other system) allows you to truly enforce a single source of truth throughout the business.

Stopping lost or overwritten files, uncontrolled multiple copies, or duplication of work, this can be further enhanced with the introduction of change control.

CAD is opened and saved directly to the platform, when on-cloud this means that your data is available to your users regardless of location as long as they have an internet connection.

Most commonly used with a ‘150% BOM’ methodology, variants and options are created and evolved in the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. They are created independently of the BOM structure and so can be created at any point of the development process.

They are revision controlled like most items in 3DEXPERIENCE and can even be put under change control. One created these can be efficiently applied to the BOM or MBOM structures already created in 3DEXPERIENCE and can be re-used over multiple different structures if required.

Classifying objects within 3DEXPERIENCE allows us to search and filter those results by a particular library or class, making data much easier to find.

We can also use classifications to add attributes to objects in that class, for example a resistor might require a ‘resistance’ attribute defined against it. This could be added to this object individually by adding it to the class.

3DEXPERIENCE uses a Unified Product Structure (UPS) to bring together all elements of a design such as mechanical, electrical, PCB, Software, etc. into one ‘BOM’.

This unified BOM can then be used by many other areas of the platform, for example Variants and Options can be applied to the whole BOM structure as a single BOM rather than over multiple BOM’s.

Once created we can export this unified BOM into a single output of what parts and quantities are needed to be passed to a purchasing department or an ERP system.
