Robotic Workcell Simulation Engineer
Design, simulate and validate robot workcell handling systems in the Virtual Factory with the Robotic Workcell Simulation Engineer Role on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform
The DELMIA 3DEXPERIENCE Robotic Workcell Simulation Engineer (RSN) Role provides an intuitive 3D environment equipped with world-class design, device building, and simulation tools.
RSN enables users to create virtual mechanical devices—anything from clamps to complex lift-assist equipment— and then use those in a robot simulation to simulate the entire workcell. RSN can develop and manage the complete machine and equipment definition while collaborating seamlessly in real time with planners, designers and simulation engineers on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.
Robotic Workcell Simulation Engineer provides a full suite of powerful tools for designing and validating components to support production engineering at all levels of the enterprise. RSN’s features include automated design tasks that speed up the design process, 2D layout for 3D design, the animation of mechanisms through forward and inverse kinematics, smart positioning of components, and robust robot workcell simulation capabilities to position resources, create robot trajectories, create a complete workcell sequence to simulate and validate the entire workcell. RSN includes an extensive library of robots and controllers for all major industrial robot manufacturers to support layout and simulation. These capabilities simultaneously improve quality, reduce costs, and maximize resource utilization by keeping production equipment engaged in value-added activities.
Robotic Workcell Simulation Engineer Benefits
Early discovery and resolution of design for manufacturing (DFM) issues
Perform robot and equipment feasibility studies early in the planning and detailing stages, reducing the cost of re-work generated by product and tooling changes.
Capture and reuse of resource IP
Save equipment designs on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform or in a catalog for reuse by other stakeholders across the enterprise. Time and effort are reduced by maintaining and leveraging corporate intellectual property.
Early discovery and resolution of resource-related issues
Discover issues such as interferences, travel limits, and inadequate reachability during the design cycle. When an issue arises, users can find the best resolution through seamless collaboration with other stakeholders. Early discovery and resolution saves time and costs throughout the enterprise.
Create, simulate, and validate robot tasks in the manufacturing context
Create and validate robot tasks in a variety of manufacturing contexts. By performing multiple what-if scenarios, the result is the best possible performance of the workcell under any condition or configuration.
Highly accurate robot workcell cycle time
Utilizes RRS-I technology to ensure that the robot’s simulated performance is as close as possible to the real robot.
Smart Design Tools
Create complex parts and products to represent tools or fabrications. Smart Design tools help guide the user and simplify the creation of complex geometry.
Fast, simple workcell layout
Choose from an extensive library of over 1760 robot models from all major industrial robot manufacturers. Auto placement and workspace envelope tools help users position the robot in a reachable position and benefit from early feasibility studies.
Robotic Workcell Simulation Engineer Highlights
Complete workcell validation
Validate the design of the workcell and process by checking for clearance and interferences between parts and assemblies and tools. Additionally, users can check reachability and joint limits of robots and machines, plus create a swept volume of the robot or the tooling based on the programmed motion. The volume can then be shared with tool designers to communicate the robot or tools working envelope.
Advanced logic and I/O support in the simulation
Create I/O signals between robots and other devices. These input and output ports can also be created from an external file. RSN provides advanced logic programming instructions through its easy-to-use interface. These logic commands let the user insert conditional statements (if-then-else) and looping statements into the robot and workcell tasks.
Realistic Robot Simulation (RRS-I) for increased simulation accuracy.
Simulate robot tasks using the motion control software found in the real robot controller. This provides extremely accurate motion trajectory and cycle-time simulations. The RRS-I protocol is used to connect the 3D simulation with the robot vendor’s motion control software. The user can integrate these native robot language programs into a larger, multi-mechanism, station-level simulation with full validation capabilities.
Create, validate and reuse mechanisms with automated support
RSN enables engineers to create mechanisms using Engineering Connections in an easy and intuitive process. Once a mechanism is created, the added ability to store a mechanism’s kinematic mapping in a template and then apply it to another mechanism makes kinematics easier to use.
Calculate interference zones (RSN)
The Calculate Interference zone function provides the user with functionality to calculate interference zones and interlocks in multi-robot workcells. When the user creates a task for each robot in the cell, the powerful algorithm calculates at which position a collision exists in each robot task. It then chooses the appropriate position for each offending robot and inserts a wait statement in each robot task. It also inserts an I/O statement in the robot task of the other robot involved in the collision, which will be re-set once the zone is clear.
Fast and easy robot placement
Offers tools that allow the user to easily position robots in a reachable position while considering all its tasks. Tools such as Robot auto-Place, Robot Reach, and Workspace Envelope provide the user with an interactive experience that shows them the optimal robot placement.
Robot Simulation On-the-Go (Offline Mode)
Disconnect the Robot Simulation Engineer App session from the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and continue to work on the simulation while disconnected from the database and the network. Data can be created and modified while disconnected. Automatic database reconciliation occurs upon reconnection.
Create 3D parts or assemblies
RSN Part Design Essentials provides features combined with Boolean operations. Choose between single-part sketching and working in the assembly context; integrate multiple product views and constraints. RSN allows users to quickly compose assemblies and position parts. Powerful tools pattern and symmetrize parts, and manage assembly-level impact of functional features such as holes. Change management is also supported.
