Manufacturing Engineer for Marine

Define manufacturing process plans for your marine product, perform feasibility studies to discover potential issues. Document manufacturing process plans, routings, work instructions for publication to the shop floor, yard, or field. All with the Manufacturing Engineer for Marine Role

DELMIA 3DEXPERIENCE Manufacturing Engineer for Marine (PEMEM) Role provides all essential capabilities to define, optimize and validate manufacturing process plans for your marine product. Describe the necessary sub-assemblies and transformation steps and detail all corresponding routings and manufacturing operations.

These routings and manufacturing operations can be balanced across the product line in order to optimize the workload and resource utilization. All along the definition phase, the user can immediately check and validate manufacturing process plans by stepping through the complete fabrication sequence and directly visualizing the corresponding product build-up in 3D including related tooling and resources.

Seamlessly on the same data set, a powerful manufacturing simulation engine enables users to perform product assembly and disassembly feasibility studies in 3D based on motion tracks with clash/clearance analysis, scenario management, definition of manufacturing states and other features. Intuitive capabilities are used to discover potential assembly issues and communicate these discoveries directly to product or tooling designers, process engineers or other stakeholders early, when changes are easier to make and less costly.

Fully integrated with the management of process plans are the application for authoring and publishing of work instructions. Easy-to-use features detail and document any process from simple assembly prototyping to complex manufacturing or maintenance processes. By means of text as well as using visual 2D and 3D information, the work preparer simply illustrates how to do a job. Best practices for work instructions can be stored and captured in a library for use by other authors. The role also supports delivery of 2D and 3D work instructions to the shop floor. When interfaced with DELMIA Manufacturing Operations Management (MOM), the process plans and the corresponding work instructions are directly pushed to shop floor workers’ execution screens.

Manufacturing Engineer for Marine Benefits

Transparent and efficient definition of manufacturing BOMs and process plans

The 3DEXPERIENCE-based MBOM and process plan definition make it possible to easily and collaboratively share all information, which otherwise would be communicated through spreadsheet-based lists with separate 2D/3D information.

Reduce costs and risk, shorten time-to-market

Manufacturing Engineers can spot process issues early in the design stages, when change is easier and less expensive, an important step in improving the quality of process plans. Early detection and resolution of issues also reduce the risk of manufacturing sequence issues, missed ramp-up & production schedules and missed capacity targets.

Determine manufacturing feasibility early in the design phase

Companies can perform assembly and disassembly feasibility studies early in the product and process design phase, when making changes are simpler and not as costly.

Reduced effort and better quality for work instructions authoring

Provides a single-source toolset to access all relevant data in 3D. Author text, copy work instructions from a catalog, capture images, attach documents and publish 3D and 2D work instructions for shop floor usage.

Eliminate the paper burden for shop floor workers

Distributing printed work instructions creates inevitable delays and takes a long time to redistribute after every change. Obsolete instructions may not be immediately discarded and inadvertently used or misinterpreted, leading to reworks and delays.

Manufacturing Engineer for Marine Highlights

Author and manage manufacturing process plans

Create and manage manufacturing data with an easy-to-use interface. Intuitively link manufacturing items to each step of the process using simple drag-and-drop from the spec tree, with assignment assistants, or directly in 3D. Manage resource allocation, the overall process sequence and product positioning at each step.

3D graph view of the process

The process graph function enables users to view and define operations and related sequencing in a graph such as PERT. They can also see the product buildup during stages of the operation. With this understanding, users can make necessary changes and optimize operation plans in the 3D environment.

Virtual Build for assembly sequence validation

Immediately see in 3D any modifications applied to the assembly sequence, all in the context of the 3D layout when it is available. At any time during the process plan definition, visualize in 3D the corresponding build-up of any selected assembly step in the same working interface. Quickly and intuitively validate the sequence of operations, identify issues, and make the necessary modifications. Easily go back and forth in the assembly sequence and identify issues based on the 3D display.

Create assembly trajectories

View and share the product in its assembled state in 3D with other project stakeholders. Using simple, intuitive commands, create interference-free product disassembly trajectories and discover potential design-for-assembly issues earlier. Creation capabilities for trajectories of parts and assemblies cover different levels of assembly simulation and validation, including products, manufacturing items and detailed process plan validation.

Define assembly simulation scenarios

Select trajectories and analyze the simulation. Define multiple scenarios, which helps to perform different feasibility studies and evaluate the impact of product and assembly process changes. Play the results of a manufacturing scenario in a simulation or validation context without re-computing the simulation.

Detect interference during simulation

Manufacturing Engineer for Marine provides interference detection (clash & clearance) during simulation of the assembly process, making it easy to identify where problems would occur in the real world. Easily modify trajectories or the order of operations to avoid interferences where possible. Users can communicate seamlessly with product or resource designers to rectify design-for-assembly or design-for-manufacturing issues.

Create choreographed simulations

Define simulations of specific activities such as changing part colors, turning the visibility of parts on and off, displaying text and annotations, and modifying the camera position between trajectory moves. The user interface allows process engineers to use a Gantt chart to manage, track, and choreograph parallel and sequential activities. This helps to define process animations suitable for collaborative reviews and presentations.

Create detailed operations with work instructions

Provides an immersive environment for authoring work instruction types, including text-based work instructions, data collection, sign-offs and alerts. These work instruction types can be sequenced with simple drag-and-drop capabilities for a specific operation in the process plan. Users can highlight important information with rich text format instructions.

Capture views as 3D Work Instructions

The power of Manufacturing Engineer for Marine clearly lies in designing 3D Work Instructions that can be as self-sufficient as possible. At best, even fully eliminating textual instructions. The user can capture view points of the product and add dress-up information, specific coloring or positioning of parts, assemblies and resources, 3D markers (labels, arrows, circles, lines call outs), 2D pictures (icons and symbols to illustrate necessary protection equipment or tools to be used), and embedded views to zoom details. These views in addition to alerts, sign-offs, and data collected can be sufficient for shop floor execution and can prevent language issues. These views can be published in 2D or 3D for execution.

Various ways to publish Work Instructions

For those who prefer the traditional way of distributing paper-based work instructions, we offer generation commands that export XML data files (including text and 2D views of annotated and dressed-up scenes), that can be converted into HTML and other formats easily thanks to XSL (eXtensible Stylesheet Language) stylesheet transformations. Users who wish to distribute 3D information to shop floor workers can publish the information to Work Plan Viewer (WKB), which is not part of Manufacturing Engineer for Marine, or if they have DELMIA MOM in place, to be shown on the shop floor worker’s screen.

Openness for MBOM, Process Plan and Work Instructions Generation and Modification

We provide openness through C++ APIs as well as a script language Engineering Knowledge Language (EKL) to create MBOM, process plans with operations and the work instructions underneath.
